Night Riding Tips
Lights and Visibility
Invest in high-quality bike lights. A bright front light illuminates the trail, while a rear light makes you visible to others.
Consider a helmet-mounted light for better visibility around corners.
Eye Protection
Wear clear or lightly tinted glasses to protect your eyes from bugs, dust, and debris.
Anti-glare lenses can reduce the impact of headlights from oncoming vehicles.
Clothing
Dress in layers. Nights can get chilly, especially in open farmlands.
Reflective clothing or accessories enhance visibility.
Trail Familiarity
Practice a few times night riding on your own, just a few km's.
Note any tricky sections, obstacles, or sudden turns on the trail will be marked.
Pace Yourself
Night riding can be mentally taxing. Maintain a steady pace and conserve energy.
Stay focused and avoid distractions.
Nutrition and Hydration
Pack snacks and stay hydrated. Dehydration affects performance.
Avoid heavy meals before the ride.
Bike Maintenance
Check tire pressure, brakes, and gears before the race.
Carry basic repair tools and a spare tube.
Remember, night riding adds a unique dimension to your experience. Enjoy the starlit skies and the thrill of pedaling through the darkness!
Farmstead Magic Along the Way
Stargazing Pit Stops
At strategic intervals, pause and look up. The Farmstead Route offers designated stargazing pit stops. Lay your bike down gently, tilt your head back, and lose yourself in the cosmic tapestry. The Milky Way stretches like a silver river, and constellations tell stories of ancient heroes and mythical creatures.
Farm-to-Table Experience
Sponsored support stations await, providing nourishment, encouragement, and a sense of community. Rest stops at local farms offer fresh, homemade snacks and beverages.
Race Villages
As you reach each race village rest under the eaves of old barns, where wooden beams creak with history. Hydrate with fresh well water, and share tales with fellow riders. We provide a warm meal and there will be toilet facilities available.
Midnight Munchies
In the heart of the night, we offer warm farm-style soup & hearty stews. Savor the flavors as you sit on hay bales, surrounded by the soft glow of lanterns.
