George Old Car Show 2023

They don’t only buy and sell cars – they also bolster the George Old Car Show!

George, Garden Route (January 2022) - Having celebrated its 25th anniversary in the previous year, the silver jubilee edition of the George Old Car Show (GOCS) featured 2,000 engines of a breath-taking variety over two days. No less than 8,000 visitors breached the gates of Eden Technical High School for their share of auto action, and this year’s event on February 11 and 12 promises an experience that no self-respecting petrol head would risk missing.

Serving as an annual flagship event of the Southern Cape Old Car Club, the date for GOCS 2023 was publicly announced during a media launch at Protea King George Hotel last November. Engine lovers must now diarise the second weekend in February, when the showgrounds in Long Street will once again be crawling with cars, motorcycles, tractors and much more.

WeBuyCars is the premier partner of this year’s George Old Car Show. Chief Marketing Officer Rikus Blomerus says the company boasts many standout qualities, but best of all are the culture and crew behind this burgeoning national enterprise.

“It’s a wonderful company to work for, and everyone involved enjoys the rapid pace at which it continues to grow. We are buying and selling more cars year-on-year, and grew from about 400 employees in 2017 to a workforce of 2,600 today.” Blomerus adds that one of his favourite things about working for WeBuyCars is the innovation that’s integral to company policy, which also guides their planning when expanding into new markets countrywide.

So why get involved in the relatively far-flung Southern Cape region? According to Blomerus, WeBuyCars has been purchasing vehicles in George, Mossel Bay, Hartenbos, Knysna and surrounding areas for many years.

“We appointed a full-time buyer in the George/Mossel Bay area about six years ago, but soon had to appoint a few more to deal with the influx of customers. Our WeBuyCars Buying Pod is open and active at Garden Route Mall, and the local market is buzzing with cars being bought and sold in George."

“The rate at which vehicles are processed in the Southern Cape is among the country’s highest, making it one of the fastest growing markets in South Africa. We plan to use the business model that works for us in Gauteng and the Western Cape to benefit clients throughout the Southern Cape and beyond,” he says.

Blomerus adds that WeBuyCars supports a handful of charitable and worthy causes, putting great thought into the events they support. “Aligning ourselves to the phenomenon that is the George Old Car Show was, however, a no-brainer.

“Both brands share a passion for cars, and everything related to the automotive industry; there’s an immediate synergy. Additionally, our involvement can provide support to the local community. We are excited and have high hopes for our partnership with GOCS this year.”

Blomerus concludes that WeBuyCars sets out to be more than just a sponsor, and truly wants to be a partner of this seminal Southern Cape event. “Our buy-in will allow us to grow this relationship and give back to the community. We know it’s the largest old-car show of its kind in South Africa and we were honoured when approached to collaborate.”

Come share the passion for cars along with the Southern Cape Old Car Club and WeBuyCars when this year’s George Old Car Show with a special focus on Italian cars convenes on February 11 and 12. Participants and stallholders should take note that the only way to register is through www.scocc.co.za.
