Fijnwyn Innie Lente
Doors open at 10:00 am
This Fijnwyn will focus on two regions: Overberg and Klein Karoo.
Overberg forms part of the Cape South Coast region and is fairly new as a grape-growing appellation, as the land has been more traditionally associated with apple growing and grape-juice production. White wine grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc flourish in the relatively cool climate here, but red-wine grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Shiraz also perform admirably.
The Klein Karoo region is the most diverse wine region of South Africa. The region starts at Montagu and passes through Barrydale, Ladismith, Calitzdorp, Oudtshoorn and Langkloof. Klein Karoo is widely recognised for the production of port-style wines that can rival those produced in Portugal. This region boasts excellent fortified wines and the sweet wines of the Klein Karoo are made using Muscat a Petits Grains and Muscat de Frontignan, better known as Muscadel in this winemaking region.
