Concert of Opera

Doors open at 4:00 pm
Organized by Atterbury Theatre
Internationally Acclaimed Opera Singers in Pretoria for One Night Only

On Sunday, 26 May 2019 the Atterbury Theatre will be filled with the sound of opera arias and duets by Italian soprano Laura Andreini and local-born internationally acclaimed tenor Stéfan Louw. They will be accompanied on piano by Paul Ferreira.

Andreini graduated as a pianist before completing her vocal studies at the Rinaldo Franci Institute of Higher Music Education in 2010. She made her debut in 2011 as Despina in Cosi fan tutte and her repertoire includes roles like Gilda in Rigoletto, Adina in L’Elisir d’amore, and Violetta in La Traviata.

Local tenor Stéfan Louw made his debut in 1998 at the Pretoria State Theatre in the role of Beppe in I Pagliacci. This role landed him the coveted FNB Vita Opera Award for Best Newcomer in Opera. Louw who has a vast lyrical tenor repertoire is now focussing on the spinto repertoire that includes the name role in Werther (Roodepoort Theatre 2015), Radamas in Aida (Opera de Dijon 2008), Don José in Carmen (Joburg Theatre 2018), and Pollione in Norma (Opera de Vichy 2008).

Pianist Paul Ferreira is no stranger to opera audiences in South Africa. His repertoire as repetiteur and chorus master includes Don Giovanni, Madama Butterfly, Le Nozze di Figaro and many more. With a Performers Licentiate in Vocal Accompaniment from UNISA he is a freelance artist who also teaches music and piano at a private school in Pretoria.

The concert at the Atterbury Theatre starts at 17:00 on Sunday, 26 May 2019 and the audience can look forward to a world-class performance of opera arias and duets like Nessun Dorma and Libiamo. Local cross-over tenor Johann du Toit will be joining the opera trio to bring audiences favourites like Con te partiro (Time to say goodbye).
